Although China is one of the world's most cashless societies, cash is still available and accepted.
Many travelers worry:

The answer is no.
Cash can still be used at:
- Hotels
- Restaurants
- Shops
- Transportation services
- Tourist attractions
- The Chinese currency is:

For most travelers:
Around 200–500 RMB in cash is usually enough as a backup.
You may use it for:
- Small purchases
- Emergency situations
- Places with poor internet connection
You can exchange currency:
- Before traveling
- At airports
- At banks
- Through authorized exchange services
- However, many travelers find mobile payment much more convenient.
Keep part of your RMB separate from your phone and cards. It can cover a small meal, short ride, or essential purchase when your battery is flat, the network is unavailable, or a card issuer declines the transaction.
Keep some cash, but don't carry large amounts.
